To achieve these objectives, researchers work to:

  • Develop inbred lines that cross well and produce F1 hybrid lines that are fully adapted to the unique conditions of the South.
  • Maximize the number of Southern adapted hybrids being tested. Yield test over 10,000 unique hybrids in general and specific combining ability tests each year.
  • Test over 2000 elite hybrids in replicated trials throughout the South. Terral Seed conducts more small replicated corn plots than any other company in the South.
  • Evaluate elite corn hybrids for drought and heat tolerance and irrigated high end production.
  • Incorporates Roundup Ready and YieldGard Corn Borer as basic genetics. This allows forward breeding with new products getting the value enhancement right from the start. Without question, Terral Seed has the best Roundup Ready and YieldGard Corn Borer corn hybrid seed available in the South, with the largest quantity.
  • Select corn hybrids that produce high yield with year to year stability.
  • Select for traits important to Southern farmers. Such as shuck coverage, kernel hardness, stalk strength and optimum plant population.
  • Verify and demonstrate results that geographically target hybrids with the use of strip advancement plots at numerous locations throughout the Mid-South. Perhaps there was one on your farm.
  • Continue aggressive research to ensure new and better hybrids are continually replacing hybrids that farmers have come to respect and love.
